🔬 Ingredient Checker

Paste in a product's ingredient list to see what each ingredient does, what to be aware of, and its pore-clogging (comedogenic) rating — a quick way to get familiar with what's in your skincare and makeup.

🧴 Check Your Ingredients

What is an Ingredient Checker?

Cosmetic ingredient lists are written in dense INCI naming that can be hard to parse at a glance. This tool takes the list straight off a product label and matches each entry against a curated reference of common cosmetic ingredients, showing what it does, a brief factual note on things to be aware of, and a comedogenic rating where one applies.

Use it to get a quick read on a new product before you buy, compare ingredients across a shortlist, or spot potentially pore-clogging ingredients if you're prone to breakouts. It's a starting point for understanding your products — not a substitute for professional dermatological advice.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How does the ingredient checker work?

Paste or type your product's ingredient list, separated by commas or new lines. Each ingredient is matched — case-insensitively — against a curated reference table of common cosmetic ingredients, showing what it's typically used for, a brief note on things to watch out for, and a comedogenic rating where one applies. Ingredients we don't recognize are flagged so you know to look them up elsewhere.

What does a comedogenic rating mean?

Comedogenic ratings run from 0 (very unlikely to clog pores) to 5 (highly likely to clog pores). They're a general guide based on how an ingredient behaves in most formulations, not a guarantee for your skin specifically — how comedogenic a finished product is also depends on concentration, other ingredients, and your individual skin.

Why do some ingredients show as unknown?

This tool checks against a curated list of common cosmetic ingredients — it isn't an exhaustive database of every INCI name in use. An ingredient marked unknown just means it isn't in our reference list yet, not that it's necessarily risky.

Is this medical advice?

No. This tool is informational only, meant to help you get familiar with common cosmetic ingredients. It isn't a substitute for professional advice — always patch-test new products and speak with a dermatologist about specific skin concerns, allergies, or reactions.
